Yes—it exists, and even after all this time we can still remember it: moving bars’ very first event. The decision to start a mobile cocktail catering business had already been made, but this upcoming booking was like the final spark that set everything in motion. As part of the 2000 film festival, we created a mobile bar with drinks and small snacks for the Neue Forum.
Of course, the excitement was huge. Our mobile cocktail bar—back then still our very first model, a rolling case bar, screened off on the guest side with a red curtain—was going out for its first real use. Everything had to be newly invented, borrowed, or improvised. And of course, without anyone noticing that we were only just getting started in what was, at the time, still a very young industry.
In the end, everything worked out. Ironically, it remained our only booking for the Neue Forum—and unfortunately it didn’t turn into our first long-term client. It was the last year with that particular team setup, and both the film festival and the Neue Forum were reshuffled afterwards.
It’s an experience we’ve had again and again: new team, new network. Sometimes to your advantage, sometimes not—regardless of how good the work was. Still, we look back on this event fondly, because it was the very first—and the beginning of a long journey.
